The South
I recently redid all my smaller tanks, installing mattenfilters and fresh decor. Like a fool, I also set aside some of my lime-scaled canopies for later scrubbing.

The next day I happened to look in on my little ally snapper and- he was gone! After a brief search I discovered him in another tank. Apparently he decided he did not like his new digs and climbed up the mattenfilter, across my bluefin killifish/swamp darter tank (which fortunately I had left the canopy on) and into a tank with a juvenile yellow bullhead and some Seminole killies. He didn't manage to snag any fish before I returned him to his old tank. Now he's got a weighted canopy up top.

This was not his first escapade; I don't know why I thought I could leave his tank open. Let this be a lesson to the rest of you! Keep them lids on.

Glad you found the little guy. A few months ago my male Stinkpot got out somehow and I had to tear my basement apart to find him. Because I keep him in a stock tank with lots of plants, driftwood and caves, if I don't always see him everyday I think nothing of it. I figured that he had been out of the tub for 2 days at the most. When I finally found him he was under some boxes and covered in dust bunnies and cobwebs. After a soak in a bucket of warm water I tossed him back in the tub and lowered the water level a few inches, just to be safe. :)
