ive got 7 more females or so to take fry from in the next 2 weeks so the next time i update there will be alot more ...there is 25 in the fry so far
i am feeding them crushed flakes wich ive already seen them eat and im gonna try brine shrimp and cyclops aswell:D
enjoy and feel free to post coments

they might get trapped in the gravel for 1, and they dont (and shouldn't) need to eat until their yolk sacs are absorbed... wait at least until you see them pecking around before feeding them, otherwise they may not be able to digest it yet...

congrats and good luck!! keep us updated!

I so want to do this with my eureka cichlids and i was wondering if you could give some pointers on what i have to do. water temp and tank size also female size

my big tank that the fish were removed from is a 110 gallon and i have seperated them into 2 10 gallon cubes for the time being ..then they will go to a 75 -grow out.....my temp is 78f and lots of hiding spots and regular water changes was my secret..my females are about 2" and the males are 2.5"-3":grinno:
hope that helps

do you know if the eruekra chiclids will breed in captivity?? also i have a 55 gallon i can separately put them in there alone. but they are together male and female only one male one female. Do i have to buy more in order for them to breed or will they eventually find each other?? cause if so i will try it with more assorted ones??

the more females you have the greater chance you ahve of breeding i would say...in the tank where these were fertalized i have 20 males -30 females
and yah they can breed in captivity!!
best to have ornaments with hiding spots that are easy to remove so that you can empty the tank to grab out the females

Sweet! thanks. one more thing how come you have to take the females out?? i always here about it but never find a correct reason lol. And im probably going to try assorted because it costs so damn much for the Eruekra chiclids

i took them out to increase the chance of the fry's survival...in my big tank they would have been eaten as soon as they were realsed by the mother..
i could tell they were going to breed because the males increased in color and agression and they all started dancing with eachother around the tank it was actually quite beautiful:popcorn:...i didnt remove them right away just to make sure that they were fertalized and i wasnt waisting my time....and the fishes time!
i waited until i thought theyre mouths were going to pop and took out they fry:popcorn:it took a week or so for that to happen but they were in the big tank for a while before that aswell....

my fry are doing great this morning none of the little guys got stuck in the rocks or anything like that......for that i am happy...i seperated another 2 females to make the total sepertated females 5.....i inspected the fry before i put them into the seperation tank and they are about 3-4 days away from being stripped from the mothers mouth...i counted 28 fry this morning that were scatered all over the tank so there is probably more....DID I MENTION THIS IS MY FIRST TIME BREEDING FISH....HOW AM I DOING?
