Hi Guys,

i have a 30g tank which has 4 small frontosa cichlids, a spotted gar (7 inches) & a small short body flowerhorn. Currently the tank has no sort of design ornaments, except the gravel at the bottom & im thinking of adding an ornament (attached) to make the tank look a bit good. i wanted to know if this would affect the growth of the fishes in terms of size?

Appreciate ur advice & help.....photo(10).JPG

Dont know the size of all your fish, but that stock + that ornament sounds like it might get a bit cramp?

Thanks for the advice, but what i want to know is that whether it will affect the growth of the fish or it has got nothing to do with it..??

Well the ornament will take up space in the tank, meaning there is less water in the tank when the ornament is in there because it is displacing water. Therefore there will be less water in the aquarium, which means the water will get dirtier faster, meaning if you don't keep up with the water changes that yes, indirectly it could affect their growth.

Thanks for the info. So if i place it i have to make sure to clean the water regularly to ensure growth of the fish?

Lots of water changes will help, but you can do as many water changes as you want... it won't make up for the fact that the tank is far too small for those fish to be happy in. Although I would have to say that you'll probably just have one angry flowerhorn and lots of dead fish.

^I agree with above post^.
anyway, that deco is too big for any 30G. your fish need all the water and space.
If needed to break up fish's line of sight, use items which displace absolute minimum water.
Small driftwood holding some dense fake plants work. or a bit of driftwood propping up thin rock slate. not much in your tank.
