hey guyz! what lighting setup would you recommend for a 100g tank? and what plants would look best in it? any advice would be great! thanks!:D

well this is kind of a not specific question cause it all depends on how much you want to spend and the amount of time you want to put into it. the cheaper lighting fixtures are compact florecents (not as good on deep tanks) and this fallows the wattage/gallon rule (atleast it closely does), the next step up and more expensive is High Output (HO) T5 i personally recomend these they are brighter then CF better for deeper tanks bulbs are cheaper in the long run, then the next step up is MH which i have no experience with but its said to be the best.
after you figure out the lighting then you need to decide if you HAVE to inject CO2. planted tanks need to be balanced with light-fertz-and-CO2 if anything is out of balance you will grow algea. so more lighting the more need you have for co2 keep this in mind when buying lights

you can find most these lights online. and of course look for one that will fit over the tank.

plants are totally up to you and even more dependent on the amount of light you have.

and i would recomend reading the stickies they have alot of good info and reading alot online caz if this is your first planted tank nothing will piss you off faster then getting an algea out break right off the bat.

im by no means an expert but this is just what i know so hope it helps and im sure someone else can add to this as well.

thanx pal!! my tank is 2ft deep, 2ft wide and 4ft length, also the tank is at the outside and will receive sunlight from the afternoon.. i got another question to verify things..

when you got aquatic plants in the tank, lets say a LOT, is it good to turn off the airpump in the day? coz i've read in some threads that plants need co2 and airpumps allow surface tension to somewhat release co2 and absorb O2.. in the day plants produce 02 and uses up Co2. so turning off the airpum in daytime good or bad? and of course giving it enough light according to WPG hehe

again any advice is great advice thanks a bunch!!

Turning off the air pump is ideal in a planted aquarium. You may need to turn it back on at night, though, depending on how many plants and fish you have in there.
