Advice for a Beginner

I'll be building myself a 40 ga (at least) tank. I like the idea of the plywood setup with one viewing window, any essential tips/advice? ill also most likely be building the stand, i know to overbuild that, ill be re-enforcing it with re-bar or pvc, or rebar in pvc tubes. I'm figuring a hexagonal shaped stand. As for the tank itself, i would like to use acrylic instead of glass as long as i dont need any expensive tools i cannot pay for.

Really any help at all will be greatly appreciated, would like to make this an Exodon tank or some kind of mini monster, preferably amazonian.

Piece of advice would be build atleast a 150-300gal as it will probably cost around the same as the 40 ur wanting to do. 40's can be bought for $20-$80 so why spend upwards of $200 to make one?

Also be conscience of standard material lengths so ur not wasting any bought materials such as a 8x2x2 or a 4x4x2

That will be quite a stand for a 40 gallon.
