Here&There
I am planning on moving my 75gal from my master BR to my man-cave/basement. The tank has only one 6" RBPiranha and two 4"Gold3SpotGouramis. It has two Emperor 400s and a Fluval 404 on it. The tank needs a good cleaning, so I was wondering if I could put the RBP in temporary housing and clean gravel and decor as well as a light cleaning for the 3 filters. I don't want to send the tank into a cycle, but I have a lot of filtration and I will do my best to preserve the nitrifying bacteria. Am I asking for trouble by trying to do the major cleaning and moving the tank at the same time? It would be convenient from a mainteance standpoint, but all is for naught if the fish die. Should I move it dirty and then clean in stages? All at once?

I would clean in stages. I've always done that on all of my tanks whether I'm moving them or not. I would clean the gravel as you will be draining the water anyways then wait two weeks to clean one of the filters, another two weeks for your clean the next one and so on. I NEVER clean all of my filters at the same time.

It's worked well for me.

I wouldn't clean the gravel and filers at the same time. I agree with cliff519 and would do gravel then wait on filters, and remember to lift with your legs

Even when i REALLY clean my filters i just use tank water to do so. The bacteria will be fine, i would just be removing the fish poo. I am just worried about the sudden shift in water quality- even if it is for the better. Was wondering if the low fish load would allow me to do more cleaning at one time. A fish can go into shock from going 80 to 20 ppm nitrate just as easily as 20 to 80. RBPs are super hardy too- only problems i hear about are when temperature changes suddenly. Probably will do it in stages tho. Thanks
