Hey there.....I'm new to the pleco game. So....what kind of system do i need for plecos? the tank is 2'x1'x1.5'. What kind of filter can i use? Is a normal sponge filter enough? What substrate is better? black or white....for viewing pleasure anyway.

Depends on the pleco. Usually a pleco will feel better on a substrate that looks like them. A yellow and black pleco, like L-333 or L-134, will feel better on black. Whitish plecos will feel more comfortable on a lighter substate, and some it doesn't matter. For your tank, I wouldn't get a pleco that grows larger than 6", with leaves most of the peckoltia genus and the hypanancistrus genus. Many beautiful plecos in those two groups.

A sponge filter will definatly NOT be enough. I'd suggest a nice HOB filter, like Penguin or Emporer, and a canister filter. I love Eheim's, but I have heard many great things about Fluval canisters as well.

ok.....HOB filter...got it...Bt do i need a powerhead? I heard plecos like current. Also....do i need to use a seperate air pump? also...do i need to have both types of filters...or will one do just fine?

If you're going with one filter, get a canister. It will totally be worth it. Canisters are the best type of filtration. I'd recommend a powerhead, but it isn't neccisary. I have two in my tank. Air pump isn't needed. IF your PH comes with a venturi attachment, try that. It will work just as good as an air pump.

thanks alot Flash.
