Hey all,

I know I don't "need" an airstone/wands in my 55g, but I really do like the bubble look, it gives my tank more character if I do it right.

I have been through a ton of different air stones, bubble wands, etc. I have two problems. The first one is that I have very fine sand as substrate so whenever I try to bury a stone/wand, it kicks up sand in the tank that gets sucked up by my AC's. My second problem is that I can't use the "wall of bubble" method in the background of the tank because the bubbles go into my AC intakes and they fill with the air.

I"m trying to find a nice clean way to get some bubbles in my tank without kicking up the sand or disturbing my intakes. Anyone have any advice/methods or stones/wands I should look into.

Here's a pic of my tank, I guess I could get one of those long flexible wands and put it directly under my rock, but I really hate when I can see the stone/wand.

Thanks,
Joe

put a small one(or two) inside one of your rocks

You could put a piece of clear plexi in the tank behind the filter intakes but away from the back wall of the tank. You can bury the plaxi bottom in the sand and put a bubble wand behind the plexi so the bubbles and sand never come in contact with the filter intakes. Lost was ways to circulate the water between the plexi wall and the tank.

Might be dumb, but it's an idea if you want one that bad...

I heard about using foam or really small sized micron bags over/inside the intakes of power filters to keep sand out. Might be worth a try. I myself am debating adding air filtration.
