Hi all,

I am toying with the idea of getting two new tanks 72x30x24" tanks, but I dont have the room for them to be on their own stands, so what I am thinking of doing is having them is having the on dual stands (one above the other)

I have multiple dual stands which only hold two 15gallons tanks, and I have some racking which hold 4 30gallon tanks currently. the 15gallon tanks are angle iron and the 30gallon rackings are store bought racks.

I dont mind if the stand is bricks as I can finish them with some ply wood etc, and make them look like nice stands.

I also plan to run FX5s on both tanks and probably a smaller 405 too, so the base needs enough room to house these filters too.

I am wondering how this could be achieved, as a tank that size is going to be around 15000 lbf which is pretty scary to have stacked up.

thanks for any help.

You just have to make sure you use strong enough side pieces. I would suggest some steel angle iron for the long braces.

consider maybe using steel? id advise using 4 by 4 posts at your corners with 2x4 bracing the sides and backs and sparingly around the front so as you can access your filters, your stands going to be high so be careful when setting it up and make sure its completely level, you dont want that much weight and water falling forward or backwards. i mean your probabbly looking at something around 110in tall, 30 for each tank and 30 for your filters at the bottom plus the space needed under each tank for support so around 10-12in for that because you also want to ensure you have room to access your tank, you also need to think about lighting for the bottom tank, i have a picture i did on paint quick and its by no means to scale but shows 2x4 in the base along front and back and then 2x4s along the back behind each tank.Untitled.png
