Hi all,

I have a 75g with fire eel, senegal, ck, florida gar; All I can say those guys poop like there is no tomorrow. In addition, I have a white sand. The bio is fine, 18x turnover, once a week water change, nitrate never higher than 10.

Anyhoo, I used to have ghost shrimps that would actually eat the poop or break it down so it appears less noticeable. However, those are gone in a day, two days top! One time dropped 30, gone in a 3 days!

I know that plecos is a no go because many have said they will harass the bichir by sucking out the slime coat.

Just wondering, if..there is something that is compatible that will do the job. I saw some bamboo shrimps that were fairly sized of 4"-5" at Petco, but I am not sure if they will eat the poop like the ghost shrimps.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

So what you had was a niche in your ecosystem which contained much of your waste product. Then your fish ate them and absorbed the waste into their own bodies. I don't think many critters will continue to fill that niche in your tank successfully. You could try an algae scrubber with shrimp to nibble it in your sump, but in the tank: More creatures=more waste. Best of luck.
