OK so I've kept tarantulas before, ive had a pink toe, a cobalt blue and a salmon pink. I had sucess with the cobalt and the salmon until the cobalt escaped and i gave my salmon to my brothers gf for her birthday as she has a few and loves tarantulas.

I decided to get a chile rose.
Within the first day it was webbing which was good, i moved to a fauna cage (if you don't what they are let me know I'll post a link). And she seemed happy.

She was being kept on a 50/50 verm and peat mix before i got her and was feeding very well (i had healthy tarantulas from that person before, theyre very experienced).

Now she seems not to good and to be staying in corners tightly and running away from food (which ive removed for now due to this). I handled her the day i got her to put her in her tub, to get over the exitement of handling her, i thought its better to handle her the day of the move rather than a few days down the line and disturb her again. So after that day i left her completely alone and she seems fine.

I read her humidity should be anywhere from 65% to 75% but after reading many, many different good care sheets it seemed most where saying 65% so im trying my best to keep it to that.

Other than that im leaving her alone i can't understand what im doing wrong, i can keep snakes and lizards and other insects fine, and scorpions are a breeze for me, where the heck am i going wrong with tarantulas?

The pink toe i had was healthy for awhile but suddenly died. The cobalt was fine until it escaped, and now im caring for possibly the most easiest species out there and it would really knock my confidence if something happened to her.

Is it possible some people just don't have a knack for keeping tarantulas? Shes really beautiful and calm and i love these animals, and would like to keep more one day if i could i just don't see where im going wrong!?!

Would only like to hear from very experienced tarantula owners please, no one whos only had one or two or has happened to read a care sheet. I've included a pic of her (the day i got her she is on my arm) and i will take one of her setup later but it is pretty much what i described with a hide included which she seems to like. Thankyou all in advance.

as you can see, she looks very healthy here and the owners said she was very greedy but she hasnt touched food from what i can see. (im using size four crickets, brown, the ones the previous owners fed her) and please remember after the day i got her i havent held her or disturbed her except to spray the tank, in which i made sure none of the water got her. Thanks again.

hmm i don't think so, if she had gone off her feed before she came i doubt they wouldnt have told me.
I think its definately something to do with the husbandry and i want to correct it asap.

pm Rakie..

hey,my pink to is off feeding right now and making me mad so i know the feeling but this is her first time in 4 years or so doing this.Anyways,i had my rose hair on dry peat moss in a 5 gallon plastic critter cage.A tipped over fake cactus and a rock and a small water dish.Once a week i would mist the entire cage and made sure some of the mist filled the water bowl.In otherwords i kept her prety dry.Had it for about 6 years this way.I think they do good not so humid and all my Ts hated vermiculite. No need for it,strait peat. And yours looks very healthy and fat.Dont leave food in for days on end,she wont want to molt because they know they are vulnerable at that time to hungry feeders.Mine wouldnt eat sometimes too, especialy when that big and fat they can go quite a while.
