Hi all,

I have set up a 12 gallon quarantine tank that I will be using to temporarily (1 week or 2 weeks) house a 15 cm clown knife fish that will soon go into a 400L. Problem is, I don't know whether my bacteria in the pump in the q tank has died out. I bought the new pump a week ago and ran it in my 400L, then I took it out and put it in my q tank with half the tank filled with water from the 400L then the other half filled with water from the tap - pre treated, conditioned etc. But it's been two-three days now and I have not put a fish in it yet, I am going to get this clown fish on saturday morning - do you guys think he will be able to adapt to the tank properly? Also, I have six small angels in my 400L with a small gold nugget and two guppies with a baby bronze cory. I also have another 200 gallon which I can put the clown knife into. Will it eat my guppies and angels if I put it into the 400L?

it'll probably eat the guppies and how big are the angels?

A clown knife will eat anything that will fit into it's mouth, and maul whatever is too big to fit and too small to be scared of. Mine used to go after my synodontis, and tore it up cause it couldn't get past the spines. Be wary, be very wary.

i didnt get the clown, i got the knife istead which is 5 cm in length i think. So he's going into my 12 qt tank next thursday, in the meantime it's housing my pictus who seems to be suffering from a slight mild case of fin rot.

by knife I mean black ghost knife fish - not hte clown knife. am i right in thinking that i can feed him:

Blood worms
jellied daphnia
Raw seafood (from a supermarket)
Raw prawn

All these foods are frozen, my lfs almost never stock anything live lol. If i were to feed him beef heart do I need to boil it first or just cut a small piece off and put it in the tank?

My BGK loves all of the frozen foods - especially bloodworms and beefheart. If you want to feed beefheart that has not already been prepared, then you have to grind it up - too tough for them to take a bite. Once it is ground then they can take pieces of it.

He especially loves the sinking wafers I try to give to my Corys. It is the strangest thing to see a 9 in BGK almost doing back flips to catch these darned things before they hit the bottom of the tank. Eyesight is poor but the sense of smell must be incredible.

hii neevana,,,,, c i also hav the same size taht is 6" clown knife..... i bot feeder guppies but never saw it eating them ,,,,,, no problem with knives they only eat bloodworms......so never wil taht eat ur guppies.... .no idea of black ghost...
mostly will eat raw prawn, worms

BGKs are pretty cool. They'll get along fine with the Angels, but the Guppies will eventually be food for for both Angels and BGK. They'll eat all that you mentioned. Have fun with your new Knife.;)

black ghost knife fish are one of the the nicest fishes iv ever kept. mine became hand tame from day one, would feed straight from my finger tips.
hold a bit of frozen bloodworm just below the surface of the water and watch your BGK come and revel at your finger tips. mine grew to about 11inchs, had give due to house refurbishment. miss the guy quite a bit now
