Hey everyone, this is my first post here, but I need some advice.

I bought a SRD back in october when he was about an inch and a half long. I've had no problems with him and he's now about 4.5 inches long now. When I got him I happened to have a thing of Omega One super color cichlid pellets on hand so figured I'd see if he liked them. He loves them. But I recently decided that i wanted to get him on to another food so he'd have some variety in his diet.

Within the past month I've tried Hikari Cichlid Gold, New Life Cichlid Formula, and even some tetra cichlid pellets a buddy had and he won't eat any of it. Once in a while he will try a piece but instantly spits it out. I even went on vacation for 3 days and when I got home gave him a few pieces each of the new life and cichlid gold and he still wouldn't eat it.

Should I just keep giving him what he likes? I'd like to get him on a higher quality food but don't want to keep spending money on something hes not going to eat.

Some fish do not convert to different foods as others, even individual fish of the same species dont act the same. Continue feeding the Omega One which isn't a bad food, but try slowly mixing in different foods with the pellets until he gets used to it. So start with like 90-95% percent Omega one and fill in a few hikari or something. Then gradually "up the dosage" and hopefully he will readily eat it. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies, I didnt mean to talk bad about the Omega because it seems to have been working well so far, he seems to be growing fast and very active. I just like the protein, fat and fiber content of the new food alot better than the Omega.

Its all good. I'm glad you are looking for the best products for your fishy friend

Oh ok, I thought I had read alot of people saying good things about the regular gold but thinking back now its entirely possible they said bio gold. I'll give that a shot if I can't get him to eat anything else.

I think he started trying the new life last night. I tried mixing it with the Omega like Mitchell said, and waited about 15 mins and couldn't find a trace of food left in the tank so this morning I pushed my luck and went 50-50 and watched him eat everything. I'll probably slowly increase the new life and reduce the Omega until I'm out of it. I've got maybe a week's worth of omega left so hopefully he'll be done with it by then. if not I'll try justchills recommendation.

Thanks everyone for the advice
