Help. I have had a tank outside for approx 5 months, 175g. finally going to be able to get it into the flat this month.

my question is, is the silicone more prone to leaking seeing as its been outside in cold weather?

its winter so has not been in hot weather at all.

any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

bit nervous filling it up when im on the 3rd floor, not sure my neighbour downstairs would appreciate the niagra falls into their livingroom should it leak. :uhoh:

it will be difficult to test fill anywhere but in the flat.

make sure to give it plenty of "warm up" time at least 24 hours I'de say to be absolutely safe... then fill it few inches at a time over a week or 2... any signs of leaking and you can syphon it out quick.. and have a good idea where the leak is if you get one. I'de say bathtub... but i'm guessing it wouldn't fit in your washroom?. Or fill it up on your day off and set the tv besides it and chill all day keeping close eye on it?

i hear people say its bad for the silicone but cannot find any reports to back this up?
That's because some people can't resist repeating what they heard, even if they have no first hand experience or knowledge of the accuracy of the information (regurgitating the crap that the last guy said).

Once cured, silicone will stand up to some pretty severe conditions. Aside from cryogenic temperatures, the bond won't be affected by cold alone (says so on the tube). Test the silicone by trying to gently lift the edge of a seam. If it is well adhered, then you have nothing to worry about.

I think you should be fine, Id be more worried about what the uv rays did to it than the cold weather. Fill it slowly to make sure, and def dont put it beside your tv (easy way to ruin a tv).
