This is going to be long, but please bear with me.

Alright, this is my situation. I currently have four tanks: a 125 with a 9" male dovii, a 5' 120 with a 8" male istlantum that I have had for a couple of years, a 55 with a 8" male trimac that badly needs a new tank, and a 20 long with a 4" male grammodes that also needs a new tank soonish.

I was on the verge of selling my 55 and replacing it with a 90, which would be the new home for the istlantum. The trimac was to be moved to the 120. The grammodes is in no huge need to be moved, but I was looking at replacing the 20L with a 50 breeder in the six months or so.

This plan would have had my apartment maxed out from an aquarium stand point, but comfortably. Then my fiance, who really has no interest in my fish, decided to buy a BUNCH of new furniture.

This has had a drastic effect on my plans. The 55 has to go, and there will be no replacement with a 90. The 20L also has to go. This leaves me with my 125 and my 120. The dovii is staying, because I could easily fit a 180 or even 240 in its 125 location, so I can keep him long term, and I have always wanted a giant dovii or umbee. So I am faced with the decision of getting rid of my istlantum, who is beautiful, rare, absolutely spotless and been with me for a while, or my trimac, who is beautiful, rare, absolutely spotless, and has been with me since he came in the mail as an emaciated, ripped up 3" eyesore. The grammodes I can probably hold on to, even if that means he lives inside the stand of one of the larger tanks, or even my Mom's house, but probably not under ideal conditions.

I am so torn up about the decision of having to choose between the trimac and istlantum, and the prospect of keeping the grammodes under less than ideal conditions that I am actually considering getting rid of all three, and pouring all my love and attention into my dovii, who also happens to be a stunner with a great presonality. This would involve me getting a larger tank, at least a 180 but quite likely something larger, and growing him into the monster he can become.

Advice please.

Does your fiance realize how torn up about the decision to let go of fish you clearly love? My question to you is.....how can she do that to you knowing how much you care about them...?

I'd keep the istlatum, unless maybe you want to add a divider to the dovii tank for the time being and keep one of the others in there until you can either convice the fiancee to "allow" another tank, or some other development.

Keep all... dump her! :D

I have 4 tanks... and once intended to give away 2 to bring on a couch and some furniture. That was 6 months back.... I still don't have the couch etc., but I'm doing great!
Trust me..... at some point you will really regret your decision sitting on your furniture at the end of a stressful day!

I can understand your point about tanks taking up all the space. I face it big time. That's why I'm now designing a centre table which holds one of my tanks with all its requirements. That way I get to keep the tank and also have an important furniture. You can try something on similar lines. Infact part of my 2 six footers' stands are sort of storage space. Think creative.... keep your tanks.... I'm sure your fiancee will understand.

Don't dump her as kook suggested. You can buy a fish any day, but someone special enough to become your fiance only comes around once in a long long while. (I know you were probably being sarcastic, but still.)

Do you have a walkway/hallway where you can stick a 18" wide tank?

Keep all... dump her! :D

I guess the smiley didn't communicate the way I wanted. Of course that was a joke! That was never meant to be taken as a serious suggestion.
Wouldn't give marriage advice... definitely not in a fish forum!!
