hi there all

I need some urgent help and advice, i have a huge indoor tropical pond 15k gallons, to cut a long story short my neighbours cat got in to the fish room (through a window) and got hold of my 36" albino pangasius and i caught the cat ripping in to the fish, it managed to get the fish out of the pond and on to the floor. the pond is elevated from the ground and has a four foot drop. The cat ran away as soon as i entered the room, but the pangasius was injured, it had one of its gill plates ripped off, but the gills looked ok, also it had some fin damage and scrapes but that was it. i got the fish back in to the pond but it is swimming oddly but not gasping for air.
is there anything i can do? i thought of isolating the fish and medicating but what could i use? what is the likelyhood that the fish will survive and heal?

i have had the fish for sevral years and have grown him and his mates up from 1.5 inches and would be a very sad loss to the pond as it was the most vivid of all the fishes, and thats why i think the cat saw it and picked it out easily. i may catch the cat and feed it to the aro and red tail as revenge!

Wow. A 3 foot fish grabbed by a cat? That's unbelievable when you consider the size. You can use a kiddie pool temporarily if space is not an issue. Get a heater and a filter and it should be all set. Clean water is always the best treatment for injuries although adding Melafix can't hurt. Get a pond version as bulk order is cheaper.

i really cant sleep its 1:30am here!, went to check on him and hes not doing well, theres no bleeding but hes swimming on his side at one end of the pond, if he makes it through the night i will isolate him and start medication.

good news!!!!! hes still alive and swimming like normal. i will isolate and medicate him and hopefully he will fully heal. ill also ask the locl vet to come and have a look at him.

good luck

Glad he made it so far. There's still hope there.:)
