i have a question for everybody in this thread whats the best type of ray between tea cup and motoro? to keep?

they are both good rays.. I have several of each.
If you are new to ray keeping, my opinion is a Motoro for a new owner.
Just my personal opinion. But like I said, I have both and love them both.

The big thing i guess is.... How big is ur current tank?? You need bigger than a 125gal... My expierence are with motoros and they are very hardy to keep, but still need to keep ur water pristine, but they get BIG...thats why i say bigger than 125! goodluck bud

Not the answer you want but, remember that there is no such species as a "tea cup".

In the trade, a tea cup just means a rather small ray. So when a dealer gets in a box of "tea cup rays" it is just a crap shoot what is in the box. Many times, even the dealer will not be able to identify some of the species he gets in a tea cup box, so it is good to get to the shop as soon as they arrive and pick out anything interesting.

So no one here can really answer your tea cup question, because no one knows what species you will get when you buy one.

I CAN say that Motoros are easy rays to keep and breed - thus they are a good ray to start with.

thanx i have a 125 gallon to start but already have a 210 gallon with in the bext few monthes motoro seem more likly now

If you get a Motoro. They can and will get big. Expect to have them for the next 20 years.. Most rays are a long term lifestyle. As long as you take care of them rt, feed and love them, they will grow and can live a long happy life.
A 125 gal tank is just that, a 125 gal tank. In any ray, bigger is better. My opinion and most on here agree. If you have a 210 gal tank, then get it set up and cycled and use it. If you are planning on getting on, then please make sure you do.
125 gal tank is not big enough in the long run for a ray, even a Retic Ray years down the road... (tea cup as its known is stores) but can work SHORT term. It, and I mean SHORT TERM, can even work for a Motoro ray. SHORT TERM.. sorry, I can not stress that enough. If you have the 210 tank, then using your 125 tank till you cycle your 210 is ok, but if its a dream to get a larger tank in the future, then Id say wait till you get the larger tank. Things happen and if later after you get the ray, you are not able to get the larger tank, then what do you do. Better to have now, then dream and hope. SO many people say they are going to get a larger tank, and we all say the larger the better. but we really dont know if they ever get the larger tank or not, so we always stress the larger tank is better and its better to get it now than hopfully later.
Its never personal with us except when it comes to the well-being of the ray.
Bigger is better.
Motoro in my opinion would be a good start. But make sure you can get it rt the first time and know it is safe and loved..

I would also let you know, even a 210 in time will not be big enough... In time. so as long as you have all the facts. thats whats best

Also if you have to ask if a 125 is big enough then you may not know enough to keep a retic or other Ray alive in a 125....my point is that due to low volume to waste ratio it is much harder to keep a Ray alive in a 125 than a 250 as the waste produced plays havoc with the smaller volume of water.

250 is not enough for a normal motoro and they will outgrow it but more importantly they will mess with the water very quickly.

This also depends on the filtration and water change regime...weekly wc is a necessity not an option on a 125.

I really wish that retailers would drop the "tea cup" name from their vocab and I am amazed at the amount of retailer who sell rays without knowing enough about them....if I ever breed mine I will conduct an interview with any prospective owner and I do not mean to be eliteist I just want to make sure they alive.....

Aquaman was very clear that he would not release mine until my 300 was set up and cycled, despite me proving I knew enough to keep them in my smaller holding tank! I have deep respect for him for that as I parted with more money than my first few cars cost!
