In the planning phase of a diy plywood salt water aquarium, really loking to bounce some ideas off of more experienced diy'ers. I have been researching different builds for about 2 months on this site and others, have got a good grasp on the basics. My plan is to build an 8'x8'x6' or as close to that as possible realizing that the outside dimension will be larger and the inside demensions will be smaller. Ok so some of my questions are if I use more than one layer of plywood glueued and screwed can I use less outside support? I also plan on useing a steel cage becuase, well I have experience and skills that make that a great option. I was able to build a steel stand for 0$ and two lunch breaks for my 70gal tank that houses my red tail boa. (sorry now i am just bragging) In areas where steel meets plywood will I be able to fiberglass over the steel? fiberglass in general worries me because the little experience i have with it (surfboard repair) leads me to believe it would be a giant pain in the ass to glass something this large. I have read in many builds the use of pond armor, different brands of liqued rubber. (zalvar) The biggest factor I have noticed to theese diy being successful is good planning so i appreciate any help any of you can offer.
