Hey MFK's -
As some of you know, tomorrow I will sadly but (much needed) have to give up my RTC. I am keeping my 75gl and want to setup a cichlid tank. I will not be purchasing a bigger in the near future.
My questions are:
1. what would be the best filter?
2. is crushed coral good for the substrate, or should I use sand, stones?
3. what's the right amount of fish for that size tank?

First week on this site. Very informative and supportive/caring people here.

thanks in advance

joe

I didn't figure that out yet. I used to have alot of them many years ago. all different colors, and shapes and would like the same again. Sorry I can't remember what the names are. I'll have to do my research.

go with the best filter possible, especially if you want an overstocked mbuna tank (based on your 2nd post)

Im curious on why such small fish would need alot of filtration. I can understand it for RTC's but not sure why for chiclids.

thanks

if you go with a typical african cichlid/mbuna tank, then you will most likely be somewhat overstocked, so more filtration is good. Also, the more the better, don't see why that should be a problem

so what size filter is good.
Just like someone else said, get the largest one possible. It never hurts.
Also it would really help to know what you are planning on putting in there.
Usually African Cichlid tanks are heavily stocked hence more filtration is needed. RTC's are large and produce a lot of waste, but cichlids outnumber them. More waste = more filtration.
