Advice on Adonis quirks from current and/or past Adonis owners.

My Adonis is usually fairly mellow, he staked out a small territory in a fairly overstocked tank. Left everyone alone...lately he decided to expand his territory leading to brief belly bumping with my Royal. I wasn't too concerned at first, however this morning I noticed a small disc like mark on my Royal, the newest addition to the tank...

I'd like to hear from other Adonis owners on aggression levels, size of territory needed and do they settle down once a pecking order is established? I’m thinking I should separate the two, however I haven’t noticed any conflicts with the 3 beacon (5“)...or should I add another similar size pleco to offset the aggression

Any ideas, thoughts? BTW the Adonis is around 9" not counting trailers and the Royal is around 7"....

just get more agressive as they get older. Most are pretty agressive to other bottom dwellers by about 12". What you could do is try maybe having a centrepiece of sorts and see if the "divide" can act as a natural barrier between territories, but with an adonis you might not be so lucky. How much of a one off is it? Sometimes might just get into a scrap where the one asserts its dominance... sometimes dominance simply isn't enough.

My adonis is 12+ inches and my common was 12+ inches and they got along fine ,,they were the only bottom dwellers except for synodontis who lives in his cave most of the time.. i noticed about 5 months ago the common started to look a little thinner and just not as content..so i watched them on and off all day and finally caught the adonis pushing and shoving the common.. so i just took the common and moved him into the Clown knife tank.. and you won't believe this but the common is now about 14 inches..once he was split up from adonis he ate and relaxed alot more and grew alot more :WHOA: how big do commons get?? so yes they do get very territorial .. and you may have to divide or separate..

Thank you both! :)Great advice..I'm going to give it one more day, add another cave of sorts, however it sounds like I'm going to have to seperate the two.:irked:..I'll keep you advised.

Hope you don't have to give either one of them up.. hope you have the room because they are both great!!!!

@ 2" Mine was seeking out his only tank mate (L260) and attacking on an hourly basis (3ft tank lots and lots of caves/wood!). Now at nearing 10" he is very docile, but in a 7ftr with lots of bigger plecos. Cant see it lasting......................

At 9" he's getting big enough to get a little nasty. I'd move him or I fear your L91 is going to be toast sooner or later.
