I have a DIY tank, 96" long, 24" high, 34" wide. It's made from oak plywood with a front viewing window. I have a FX6 for filtration but I'm not happy with the flow on the return side. Originally I had the drain and return on the opposite corners, and brought them closer to the middle, thinking the shorter hoses would increase the rate of flow. It did, be not to my satisfaction. I bought a couple of 1" bulkheads to use with the FX6 instead of the factory drain and return. My thought is to drill into the bottom of the tank and have the FX6 directly underneath, thus requiring the shortest distance on the hoses. My concern is not knowing if I'll get good circulation with the drain and return being located on one end. My initial thought was to place the drain and return on opposite ends, but the ultimate goal is to improve the flow rate which means keeping the hoses as short as possible. I have marked a tentative spot for the drain, 6" from the front glass and 6" from the sidewall. The return is directly behind the drain, 6" from the back wall and 6" from the sidewall, which leaves 22" between the two bulkheads. I have a couple of Koralia I can place on the opposite end to push water back toward the drain. I'm open to suggestion as to better placement of the bulkheads. Hopefully I hear back soon; I definitely want to start the process today if I can!

I would recommend just adding another two FX6's. A tank that size probably needs a lot more filtration than just one FX6. You won't really gain anything by plumbing the FX6 into bulkheads. If price is an issue, check out the SunSun 403B.

If you still want more flow after adding filters, you should check into some power heads.

As mentioned above, I dont think you'll be happy with the results in what you're proposing. I'd just look to get more filtration.

Thanks for that link! Seems I may go that route; definitely cheaper than 2 more FX6s. Wish I had the money, but that's life right now.
