Ok, so I set up my 150 outside, and rain gets into the sump, so to cover my butt I was thinking its probably a good idea to finally add Carbon. I was wondering for a tank this size how much Carbon should I use and how often do you change it, and is there any way to renew it? I hear Purigen does the same thing and can be cleaned, is this true, how much purigen would I need for a tank this size. Any advice would be great. I went outside during a hard rain to see if anything is dripping from the roof into the sump and it seemed to only be the rain itself so it's probably not even necessary just a precaution.

Ok, any other thoughts, does purigen serve the same purpose as carbon, removing pollutants and such

Purigen is polymer. It will remove organic compounds but leave trace elements. It can be "recharged" with bleach and then rinsed in decholorinator. It turns from white to brown as it gets dirty and will last months.

Carbon will strip pretty much everything from the water and it will probably be exhausted in a week.

They each have their place and purpose. Many people run both.

A 10" water filter reactor like sold at bulk reef supply should be plenty for a tank that size.

If the tank is outside you might also consider building a fresh water protein skimmer for it a.k.a. a Foam Fractionator like the koi guys use. These are great for pulling dissolved organics out of the water.

what do you normally use as a pump? Are you looking to use a lower flow rate?

just use a small simple pump or the return on a canister filter, ect.. You will want to dial in flow rate so the purigen is just moving around, but with carbon you want it packed together somewhat or it will grind itself up to dust. Only need the whole tank volume to pass through about once an hour or so, doesnt need to be 4-6x per hour like the bio-chamber

have you tried DIY with a water filter? I would be tempted to give it a shot and then run it off a power head
