Hi there, wonder if you guys can share your experience on how to deal with algae problem in a lungfish tank? My 60cm aethiopicus is getting so aggressive and territorial, even the poor and humble plecos are not spared  . I added plecos, large and small, into my tank in the hope that they can clean up the algae but none survived longer than a week. Apart from scrubbing diligently to reduce algae growth, is there a more natural (and effortless) approach such as algae eaters and the like? :nilly: :nilly: Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Keeps your lights off as much as possible, keep sunlight out of your tank and wipe the sides once a week so you dont get build up.

Here's my guy after a scrub down and water change be careful though when cleaning mine attacks the siphon. Use a divider to keep him on one side of the tank while you clean the other side. Plecos are just expensive snacks.

If it doesn't pay attention to mid level swimmers. I find that a medium size flagtail works best for algae and grime off the glass. They do a better job than any plecos.

Thanks so much - I will try them out. Will certainly get a couple of flagtails this weekend.... BTW, what annoyed me is that: my aethiopicus didn't actually eat the plecos (skin too thick?), instead it tore and devoured them to pieces, leaving me the job of scooping the pieces out :WTF: Cheers!

In addition to lights, lots of water changes, and maybe chemical filtration like Purigen to strip organics from the water which is what is feeding the algae, I would try getting a group of Chinese algae eaters. They are fast and cheap. Maybe not fast enough, but even if you have to replenish occasionally they might be a good solution.
