hi. so i've decided to keep my two green spotted puffers and to set up a full brackish tank for them. does anyone have any suggestions in keeping them? i'm looking more for tank size, setup, compatible tank mates, or proper care suggestions rather than stuff like salinity, as i have already done a boatload of research on that stuff when i first aquired them. but i'd like suggestions from experienced keepers as to the best way to keep them and some nice other fish i might be able to keep with them, etc. any suggestions appreciated!! i want to make sure these guys have everything they deserve.
thanks for the help!

ps:: they currently eat frozen bloodworms and small snails. they used to eat brine shrimp pellets, but since i've put them in with my oscars temporarily they won't touch the pellets anymore, just the bloodworms. is this an alright diet? should i try to make them eat the pellets, too?

oh, and i'll need to try and get some pictures up so you guys might be able to let me know for sure that they're GSPs. that's what they were sold as, but my brother got them from walmart, so i'm not positive... :/

Hello and congrats on the babies I did have two at one point so have a little experience, there are others that can offer more ;). With the diet I am surprised that they ate the pellets this is unusual, a varied diet should be applied and here is a good article on the foods to include:

Crunchy foods are essential to keep their beaks trim and from overgrowing. All my puffs have loved snails and especially earthworms and mussel.

As to the tank requirements here is a good link:

You would be looking at a 30g for a singleton and around 50g for two as they are active and aggressive when they mature and need space.
As to tankmates this is pretty hard as it will depend on the puffs themselves as to whether they will accept each other into adulthood or any other fish. As to fish suitable since these fish end up in high brackish when adult Im unsure what to recommend. Some take the tank to full marine to make easier maintenance and also so they can add further things.
With tank set up make it interesting and if having more than one break line of sight to lessen aggression. They are intelligent puppies and need interesting complex surroundings.
I gave my two up in the end as it was not the right time and too big a leap, I had them at around 1.5 inches and they already were pretty aggressive with each other. The tank I had completely silk plants and bogwood, even sticking sucker padded silk plants to try break line of sights.
Hope that has helped a little and best luck on your research!
p.s.s. some will say to get them away from your oscars as there could be damage done there.

thanks :] yeah, they're only in there temporarily, but the oscars completely ignore the puffers, even at meal time. the puffers get their fair share of bloodworms and get nice round bellies. but like i said, they'll be out soon. and yeah, they ate the pellets just fine before, but not since i started giving them the bloodworms [my brother fed them the pellets]. right now they're really not aggressive, but they're still little babies. i will definitely take a look at those links. and yeah, like i said, they eat snails as well
