Hi i would love to have a silver arowana in my tank but i am unsure of its tank requirements once fully grown peoples opinions vary so much i am unsure:confused:. i am new here so i might be bringing up old info but you guys are my best bet to good advice. It would be sharing with some uaru and geophagus and a rectic ray (temp). tank dimensions are 6 ft long x 3 ft deep x 2 ft high 190 ish gallon filtration will be added as req thanks.:grinno:

hmmm.....well that sounds pretty okay to me i mean at least the tank is 3' wide so thats good, i wouldnt keep it in anything under 7' long though, i mean it will work great for a 2' aro but you'll have to get bigger tank in the future, just my 2 cents

its a 270 gallon and is more than enouf for a silver arawana...
6' long seems to small for one though but yeah i guess you could keep it in therefor life

Well thanks for your advice I guess ideally it will be a grow out tank for a year or so nice to know I'm not to far off. what would you say is an ideal size 8 x 3 x 2 ? P.s sorry that was UK. Gallons I stated not U.S. Thanks

It serves for the purpose.

Watch the ray. It is nit the first aro that kets killed by a ray's spike.

Poor advise IMO from some of you guys. Of coarse many the replies are from those who have never kept anything close to a 30" arowana :screwy: Seriously if you can't provide the arowana with a tank that is at least 3x it's length then find a diffent fish. The width of the OPs tank is adequate but not the length. The 6" length is about the equivilant raitio of keeping an 14-15" cichlid in a 40g breeder or just keeping that betta in the cup that it comes with from the LFS.

One only has to click the link in BDericks sig to see that even an 8x3' footprint is "small" considering the potential size of the fish. Anyone who suggests anything under 8x3x2' is dreaming or ignorant, even that would be a bit on the small size IMO when you see how big these fish get in ponds or public-sized displays.

Here's the pic I usually post in threads like this, taken at the Berlin Aquarium, click to see it full size. The square tiles in front of the tank were about 30cm/1' square, and the big old silver on the left was easily longer than three of them. Would you be happy keeping that fish in an 8x3x2' glass box...
