Ok so I am planning on setting up a 180-225 gallon. Please tell me what you think of my equipment and stocking list and let me know if you think I should add anything.
Equipment:
Rena Filstar XP4
2 Hydor Koralia 2's for flow
2 Visi therm 300 watt heaters
Various logs, plants, and sand.

Stocking:
Needle Nose Gar
Ghost Knife
Fire Eel
Leopard Ctepnoma(Leaf Fish)
Shovelnose Cat
4-5 Silver Dollars
Possibly a Bala Shark

Way understocked and way underfiltered! Go with a drilled tank and run a sump. Take my word for it, once you go wet/dry, you'll never use a canister again.

agreed. you can keep more fish and a wet/dry IMO cannot be beaten especially when its a DIY as no comparable canister will cost under 5 times as much

or a fx5 or two.....and your stocklist is fine....whats the theam of your set up?

If you do decide to add a bala shark make sure that you add more than 1 because they are much more active in higher numbers. Do you have any pictures of this setup?

No pics right now. I just like the semi-agressive fish. I used to have a 55 gallon w/ all the mentioned fish except the silver dollars but they all got to big so w/ this tank I could have them all grow big and not give them up. What is the point of a wetdry w/ a FW? I have one for my SW tank but w/ that you have your protein skimmer, refugium and other things like that. What goes into a fw one other than some carbon and a filter sock.

Skip the XP4 and get two XP3 instead, or go with a FX5 with a AC110. In my 180gal bare tank I have 2 XP3s, an AC110, and a SEIO 1500gph pump for water circulation. There are 6 Bichirs, 2 cats, 3 P-bass (9-11 inches), Orange pike, and a 11-12 inch Jar Aro. Tank is very clean and clear with this set up.

haha this is the first guy ive ever seen understock instead of over stock. Well its better to understock. You could almost double the fish you have in here lol. Good luck though man.
