I apologize in advance for this being long but i don't want to waist too much time and money on impulse and bad buys.
Ok, so I got real lucky. Wanted a fish room with 2 or 3 tanks, found a deal I couldn’t refuse and now have 12 tanks (found pet store going out of business):headbang2, 10 of which I will be keeping and 9 will be in my concrete basement. The sizes I have are 125 (6ft), 110 (old 6 ft), 3x 55, 3x40 (4 ft), 50 (4ft), 33 (4 ft), and 2x 29. The 125 is setup in living room with Discus and other fish mostly tetras. Taking the tetras out of that tank and putting them in 50 gallon wide which I will make a tetra/appistogramma tank with open top and plants coming out. The 110 I plan on putting the following:
1 Chocolate
2 Severum (two males, red and rokteil)
2 Sajica
2 or 3 Geophagus
3 Clown Loaches
1 Fire Eel
10 Tiger Barbs
Does anybody feel this wont work? I will be selling one 40 and the 33 gallon tank. I plan on using one 55 for Africans, and one 40 for rainbows and various loaches. That leaves me clueless on 2x 55s, one 40, and 2x 29. I like central and south American cichids but don’t really care for 1 or 2 fish tanks. I may possibly do a breeder for EBJD but I would like to know, even if it’s a type of tetra, what other people have gotten away with. I know different fish have different personalities but I’m just trying to weigh realistic options.

Will eventually get a monster tank for stuff like Jag, Black Belt, Arrowana, Veija, but I don’t want to buy any of those fish until I at least get a 220.

Any advice or thoughtful opinions would be appreciated.

if you knew anything about your locahes you'd know they should be kept in groups of 5+.

I know that Recommendation doesn't necessarily mean mandate. I've had my 3 clown loaches for over a year and they've more than doubled in size and readily eat from my hand, or rather take from my hand when i try to spot feed my discus. The other loaches i have i bought all that were available. One kuhlie loach died as soon as i got it but i bought from a new Petsmart that opened a few weeks ago so quality wasn't great. Bought the only 2 Phucket loaches the store had and only one survived.

Thanks for the thoughtful advice.

Any suggestions on what to put in the 55 and 40 gallon longs. Anybody tried dwarf pike with any SA cichlids. Saw a post with Rainbow Cichlid, thinking about maybe mixing those with keyholes and something else. Just looking for suggestions or past experiences.

you could do dwarf pike with some bigger rams like bolivian ones n such... the smaller sa/ca i was gunna do that in my 29 but soon im gunna have to move my oscar out of my 55 along with my pike out of my 55 (pike is going in the 29). the reason i gotta move the oscar n pike is because my two jags are starting to pair off. i can tell by their actions and their vents.but very nice dude. i know i gotta get a bigger tank but the jags are only about 3-4 inchs

Thought about a little Tanganyika cichlid tank?

Maybe an african tank with butterfly fish, elephant nose, leopard ctenopoma, some kribs and some congo tetras.

As for the tiger barbs in said tank i would maybe go with 15 or so as this would keep them busy amongst themselves and curb fin nipping on other fish.

Good idea. Actually thought about doing that in a 29 gallon but i saw how Ctenopoma just sit in same spot all day doing nothing, same with butterfly fish. I like congos and may put them in with my rainbows.

I also want to one day take a stab at Tropheus but thats later, wanna concentrate on SA since I have dealt with them already.

I may end up selling 2 of the 55s and gettting a 75 and 90 so I have more options. Not many people have been too helpful and giving ideas which must mean there aren't many for multiple SA cichlids in 55.

Well I have a 55g with 5 silver angels, pair of rams and a pair of checkerboard cichlids.
