Here's the setup I have.... 55gal. and a fluval canister filter with an male EBJD/female JD pair and a small bristlenose.... I have 3 1/2 chambers to use on my filter. Right now I'm using carbon in one chamber and bio media in the other two. I was thinking of getting rid of the carbon and placing something else in there instead. Any advice on what should be in the chambers?

Is this a fluval 304?

If so id go with filter floss in bottom chamber

Then the bio in the other two since you got it.

I got a 405 it goes

Filter floss
carbon or purigen
Bio

It's a fluval 305. I thought I'd try it without carbon, not sure it's needed. I'll check out some filter floss tomorrow. Thanx.

purigen is great for water clarity and helps keep nitrates down my removing certain organic compounds. I use and love it. Filter floss (The first link) I love as well but I buy big green bags of it at wal mart for like 3 bucks. Its labeled as quilt batting but its safe to use and much more cost effective.

I should have noted the 405 has 4 baskets so your setup might need to be different.
