All my fish in the 5ft tank have died of unkown causes. I have cleaned it all and done a 100 percent water change a week ago. I'm going to turn it into a Bichir and Corydoras tank only. What set up and so on should i use? And how many Bichir and Corydoras fit into a 5ft tank?

Thanks,
Keith

Say good by to all of your corys once the bichirs are over a foot. I'd recommend something that occupies the middle/upper sections of the tank too.

What set up and so on should I use?- I'd do a tank with a lot of driftwood and maybe even a couple big plants like swords. You should keep it dimly lit so your polys come out more.

How many can I fit in one tank?- It depends on species, filtration, and the width of you tank. I wouldn't put more than 6 bichirs in if you plan on having other tank mates.

cories can kill bichirs. they have spines on their fins and when the bichirs decide to eat them they will kill eachother. bad move for tankmates

did you clean the tank with soap or any kind of cleaner if so you will need to wait a while for the bacteria to grow back in your tank this takes a few weeks you can buy bacteria addatives at a pet store to jump start it

How wide is the tank ?

you could most likely could have a few bichirs and a few larger catfish try any catfish thats not aggressive and that doesn't get big enough to eat the bichir or vice versa

corys and bichirs is a bad idea all corys stay to small and will be eaten but if the bichir trys to eat them and finds there to big to be eaten (which they do alot ) they could get stuck in the bichirs mouth and can't be spit out corys and many armored catfish will do this to larger fish and it usually kills both fish

I think the first thing to figure out is why they all died mysteriously. I'd work on that before even considering more fish.

I have a theory. My mums tank was getting pretty bad with disease and when i was away (at my girlfriends) she put a few of the fish that looked fine in a breeding box and when i got back all mums were dead but mine where fine then over 2 nights they all died except my lungfish and bristle nose, i have now moved the bristle nose in with the congo bichirs and the lungfish in with the red tail. Could that be the cause?

:iagree:.

i could see if only one or two fish died mysteriously because sometimes fish just die but you say the entire pop in your tank died? hmmm...i'd investigate that before buy more fish who may mysteriously die as well.

Brochis cats! They're humongous cories...
