i have a 25 gallon tank, with a variety of fish in. i have recently aqcuired 5 cherry barbs, and i think they are nipping the fins of my 3 male lyretail guppies. i want to take the guppies out and put them into a seperate tank, but the online guide reckons that they need at least 20 gallons. i think that this is excessive just for 3 teeny fish (including the long tails they are not even an inch long), i was thinking of getting a 20 litre corner tank for them, but not sure after this advice. anyone know?

Do it if they are under an inch to mabey an inch and a half they arent gonna need more then 25gl and barbs will nip on anything that looks tasty so good luck :)

well the tank i am looking at is a 4.4 gallon triangular tank, and there would only be the 3 guppies in there. i was told that cherry barbs were ok to keep with other fish, and that they were the only barbs that dont tend to nip. they are only babies too.

what can i do about the cherry barbs though, they are only half an inch long, but its only the guppies that they are nipping, my mollies and gourami are being ignored by them
