New to the forum. Right now I have 150 gallon tank and I will have my stock list listed below (most are juveniles at this point and are SA/CA cichlids). I am looking to build a plywood tank that will be approximately 500 gallons. Footprint will be approximately 7’L x 4’D x 32” Tall. Looking for some suggestions as to what other Species of fish that would be good with my stock list and could coexist in a much larger tank. Look sing for larger cichlids, I love color, and would match the aggressiveness of my current stock. Or would more aggressive SA/CA cichlids work with the larger footprint?

Thank you very much in advance for any comments.

2 - Rotkeil Severums
1 - Green Severum
2 - red shoulder Severums
1 - chocolate
1 - EBJD
1 - Salvini
1 - gold saum/green terror
2 - Geo red head tapajos
1 - acarichthys heckelii
1 - geo abalios
2 - picture cats
1 - albino bristle nose pleco
2 - gold marble angels
1 - jurupari
2 - uaru

Welcome aboard

You will definitely need that 500 built before they matured the 150 would be over stocked creating aggression issues. The Salvini is the only non South American Cichlid on the list and probably the most aggressive of your list but hopefully everything works out.

Thank you for your response. Actually the Salvini is one of the biggest pansy of the entire group and and the largest besides the Severums and chocolate. If he does show any aggression I do plan on moving into a different tank.

I’m definitely guessing that once in the 500 I have some more room to stock. Just looking for some other good options

I think you may get aggression issues with the salvini too. Hopefully not but keep an eye on him. Once the big tanks up and running if you want more fish I'd increase the numbers of geos and heckelli, they do best in groups of 5 or more and you will enjoy watching them interact. I actually got rid of a salvini from my tank due to aggression and got 5 orange head tapajos and the tank is certainly more chilled now.

Would a South American fresh water stingray be a possibility at all

Depends on the width of the 500 gallon and filtration also you will have to lighten your stock due to the bioload the Stingray will produce. I suggest doing thorough research on Freshwater Stingray prior to occupyi one.

I personally would make the big tank strictly south American. SA cichlids live in more close proximity in nature than their CA counterparts and are more tolerant of each other. And your fish are mostly SA except for the salvini and EBJD. You could add most types of geophagus, smaller cichlids like guianacaras or cupido. I would add some interesting non-cichlids like flagtail prochilodus or pinktail chalceus too.
