So I pulled every non-cichlid fish from my 90g flatback decided to stock it as a growout tank... it also allowed me to properly measure each fish as well...

The tank now consists of
3" Festae x3
3" Convict x2
3" Oscar x1
5" Green Terror x1
6" Texas x 1

Upon adding the Festae the tank became a warzone seeing as they shoaled up and established dominant force in the tank and currently compete with the Cons over a group of clay pots in the corner... The oscar acts like a referee and breaks up the madness when the chase passes the structure he has claimed mid tank its cute really.

The GT and Tex swim about and ignore the small fry's war...

Is this normal?

Also I've got a diy tank project starting so when these buggers get to big they can find peace in a bigger tank... What dimensions should I try to build? I was thinking about a 48x30 foot print.

when they get aliitle bigger the festae wil totally dominate that tank, and are those deminsions in inches?

Yeah I bought 3 in hopes of getting a female. I will sell or trade off the males. Inches for the foot print 48"x 30" was what I was entertaining. I asks also thinking of maybe making a wood bottom and using glass from used tanks since that might be easier. I just need to make sure my floor can support the weight.... if I have to I will just buy a few more stock tanks and use them until I get my own house where I can just build the tank in the basement

I was also thinking of a 96" x 24" x 24" but once again I have no idea where I could put the damn thing!

Until that day comes I always have 100g stock tanks!
