Has anybody bought a tank from Clarity Plus? I'm hoping somebody has some good feedback to report. On 8/11 I ordered a 750 gal acrylic set up from them (Mike) - tank stand filters lighting pumps etc. Total cost was $8500, with 1/2 down, 1/2 on delivery - around Sept 1. On about Sept 1 I talk to him and he says there are just a few orders left that he has to complete before mine, and that he will ship mine by Sept 16. On Sept 16 I call him to verify that mine is being shipped that day, and he says no and basically blows me off. Says he has a piece of acrylic in is eye and needs to call me back in a few minutes. He never does. I call again later that day, leave a message, and no call back. I call two more times over the next couple of days on his cell and the office, leave messages, and still no return calls. I have been nothing but nice to the guy, and i'm pretty sure he is dodging me with the caller id. Funny thing is I never had a problem getting ahold of him while we were negotiating the deal. Finally I sent him an email that he responds to. He basically says that he does not like to rush tanks like this and that he will let me know in the future what the delivery date will be. Meanwhile new tanks from him keep showing up on ebay and I now have a visa bill due for $4250. He has time to build tanks that he has not gotten any money paid to him on and put them up form sale on ebay, but he does not have the time to build mine, which he has already been paid a sizable deposit (at least a sizable deposit for me).

Should I dispute the charge, or give him the benefit of the doubt and more time? Obviously I would prefer to get my tank. The deal is a good one, if he actually delivers, and I am not worried about losing money since it is on my credit card.

That may be but this guy needs to work on his communication skills. First of all, he gave you a date at which it would be ready, then he bails out on that date. His first mistake was throwing up a date that he couldn't meet. This guy obviously has experience in assembling tanks, so if he is legit he should know how long one takes to build. If there was a problem with materials, scheduling, etc. he should have just said so instead of dodging calls. Leave him a message telling him that the charges will be disputed unless he gives you a straight answer on what's going on and when a ship date will be. Tell him you've been more than patient and since you're a paying customer, you're top priority. It may be a good deal but you're better off doing business elsewhere if this is how he treats customers. A few thousand dollars is alot to spend on anything, no matter who you are.

I believe Visa has a fraud investigations unit. Have them investigate it, and if he does not stick to his word, then Visa will give you your money back, and they will take the funds from his bank account.

Did you have any delays in getting your tank? Was it a smooth transaction?
