i'm looking to getting rays within a year, only so long because i'd want the tank well cycled. i'm planning a 180, i know not big enough for most full grown rays but it will last a couple years, plan on stocking it with Black arowannas, if i can find them again, some knifefish, i like the idea of some large black ghost, just want to know what species, where would you advise i get them from and what filter setup you would use on a tank this size from people with ray experience. i've had a decent size tank before a 240, 180, 2-120's, and a ton of random tanks used as breeders. i just always been into rays just never would make the commit to buy because i wasnt stable but now i am and would like to commit. any advice is appriciate but great advice wanted lol.

read the sticky in the ray forum, there is a bunch info posted there

I've read the stickies, i want to know from people who have the fish about if the set-up. like what filter, brand/model, and such, i've been using the website for a long time just never subcribed until recently and been keeping fish, mostly large cats and south american cichlids for 17 years now, i also dabbled in salwater preds for awhile and african lake set ups, now that i'm not in california anymore i want to make my dream of keeping a ray reality now that i can do it legally and not deal with hastily cared for illegal rays in cali. but thanks for the reply.

filter sumps are best... increase total water capacity and hold your bio...

fx5's are good canisters. I find. (filled with ehiem emfustrate (however u spell it) , seachem matrix) and the fluval sponges/foams.

i use a sump + fx5.

remember if u rely on one canister. if they get cloged... there goes ur filteration..
so good to have more than one type of filteration going on!

I have a 240 gallon 4 by 4 by 2 with two canisters on it. Yes i would read sticky's aswell.

Good. It is a good idea to get any specific questions that you have out of the way before you get the ray; have it's diet, temp, filtration, etc, down pat before you even get it in.
