I have a female jd and a gt and I want to cross breed it. what male would make a cool looking fish

a texas or any parachromis IMO. Doesn't really look like you have enough room in a tank that size though.

I was thinking anything in a 6 to 8 inch range what about a salvini

I still don't think it would be a good idea in a tank that size. If you actually did get two fish to breed the parents are just going to beat the hell out of the rest of the tank. Do you have any other tanks set up to put your other fish in once your fish start to breed? And then once you have babies what are you going to do with them? I wouldn't suggest breeding anything until you have a minimum of 2-3 decent sized tanks set up.

Once you got maybe 150-200gallons worth of tank space you can try the salvini but I highly doubt its going to breed with anything in your tank, maybe the gt or jd if you were really really lucky. I don't think salvini are cheap fish either if something were to go wrong when you introduced him/her. If I were you I'd try a texas or a convict, it seems like they both breed with everything and they are both dirt cheap. Other choices I'd suggest would be a firemouth, or if you wanted to take a risk a managuense(jaguar), or a motaguense.
