So my wife said she wants some fish. I was like sure no problem I have been buying stuff to turn my 55 into a planted wounder land, lots of light presureized co2 ect.

I figured I could stick her fish in there. Then she gave me her list of fish she wants adn I was to pick one or two. And that where my dream of htis planted tank starts to fizzle.

Salvini "7
Jag 14" predictor
Living Stone 10" Predator
Venustus 10" Predator

So that means I could have maybe one of those and the salvini in the 55 but no way I could have plants in there now.

I could put her fish in my 220 but then I have to worry about my little guys.

So do you think I could stick a jag and salvini in my 220, or should I worry about my loss of stock.

Salvini would be fine in a 55, probably even pair

Dont put the livingstonii or venustus in there, they are open water swimmers and need at least 6' minimum to swim. 4' would be like shoving a cheetah in a box were it cant run

Dont put a jag in a 55

as for the 220 you have more room to work with... depending on what you have in there.

Livingstonii and Venustus are predators and will eat anything 6" sometimes bigger when full grown. Probably will have the speed to outrun prey as well.

Jag could hunt smaller tankmates as well and can fit even bigger fish in its mouth than the previous mentioned.

salvini is pretty agressive i wouldnt mix it with anything than gets smaller than it or the same size. it would be like putting a five year old in a bar fight against a midget...lol

I would never put a 13" in a 55 but I would put a 10" but I didn't know about the fact they needed so much swimming space thank you for that heads up. I thought they would be boring it said they play dead all day waiting for food.

So a pair of the Salvini's it is, are they going to eat my plants and up root them like all other cichlids?

Captive Livingstonii actually don't play dead often I've seen mine do it once for just maybe 20 seconds. Its something they do in the wild i think more than in captivity. They act much like CA/SA cichlids and mix well with moderately mannered ones. In the wild they are piscavores so feeders will bring out some of there natural behavior. If you would like to see pictures of 8inchers take a look in my gallery.

Salvini's are cool and if I had a 55g and wanted a breeding pair i would choose them. Colorful, aggressive, not too large. My male was even a glass banger.
