I have giant sneak head he is 7 inches long what does it mean if in one end of the tank he keeps swimming up an down the glass for hours on end

My Mother kept juvenile Red line Snake Head and I remember selling them in the Pet Dept. . They would display that behavior for various reasons possibly hungry, may be trying to escape or water conditions may be off. Btw Red Line Snake Head have voracious appetites.
