Need some insights from those who keep tanks / FGT in exposed area - not fully shaded from rain and sunlight.

I am in the process of making an upgrade for my ATFs and talking to a supplier the possibility of a 8 x 4 x 3.5 FGT.

It won't be placed inside my house and the roofed area in my garden is already allocated to 2 large 300 gal tank.

This FGT will most likely be place at a semi shaded are where it will be exposed to partial sun (up to 40C on hot days for couple of hours daily).

The supplier told me due to the sheer volume of the water, the temperature will not fluctuate to more than 1-2C if hit by direct sunlight for just 2-3 hours during noon).

I am not too sure about this nor the any bad effects that might occurr.

Some other details:

FGT in White - more reflective of heat compare to darker colours.

Algae - probably will let it grow on the sides while I will need to work at scraping it off the viewing glass.

Please share some of your experience and thoughts.

Sincere thanks.

Thanks.

Had decided to get a large garden umbrella to provide some cover.

Cost less making an extension to current roofing. :(

make sure a gust of wind won't topple it onto your tank, that would not be good...

temp shouldnt be too crazy, you can also put up some 70% shade cloth to combat the sun

Appreciate the advice guys.

I went and did some browsing and noticed that these umbrellas has space at the base for one to put cement blocks - added stability.

Nonetheless will look into this cautiously. The frame may hold but not too sure the fabric of the umbrella will be ripped off or not if the wind is overly strong.

we have shade cloth over the trampoline anchored with rope to the balcony and trees (4 links) 3 years with no issue so far
