I have a really high grade flowerhorn... I would like to breed him, what are some things to look for when searching for a female.... What's a good way of approaching this? Experienced fish breeders only please and thank you.

All in what you want to make. If you're breeding a fading fish obviously pearling won't come in to play but for most strains what a good looking female is the same across the board. Sizing like above is right.

Divide them in your tank alone until her tube drops then drop the divider.

Question is to vague IMO! What does this this HQ male look like???
Here are a few general thing to look at on whatever you do:
1. Short Face
2. Finnage
3. Tail

I never knew anything about eyes being key to health so you would have to talk to bro FF about that one. Everything else is up to preference.

Get a cheap cichlid, like a jag, dempsey, or texas. Don't buy an expensive female cause you still don't know his temperament. He might kill your expensive female.

Female is very important. I would suggest getting the best looking female you can. Most pearls, color, etc. The fins, shape, and size should come from the male. The color and pearls the female. That is my exp. anyway. Like said above get a female that is about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the male. I think the best way to pair them is to cut holes in a divider that only the female can fit through. Odds are she will let herself get beat up by the male, however she won't let herself be killed. Allowing her to get behind the divider lets her heal and recharge before going back in with the male. When you introduce the fish. Make sure the female is the first fish in the tank. Let her get comfortable and after she is then introduce the male. Give the male more room to swim on his side of the divider. Place flat rocks or round pots on the males side and let them do their thing.
