Im looking at getting some rays and have been advised by a shop not to go with scobina or hystrix as these are hard to keep for a first pair I should get a pair of motoro. Now my tank at present is a 5x2x2 with a 12" aro and 4 silver tigs. Im using this to grow out the fish and they will then move to a 6x30x24 so I was looking at rays I could keep in this tank and have been told motoro would be fine so im just looking for some confirmation on this please.

your shop would tell you thats as thats probably all they can get hold of

your tank is to small for motoro

with what ever rays you get you will need to take all the plants and decor you have in your tank that i have seen this may cause you problems as your aro is big and the tank mates you have mentioned are small and chances are the aro will eat or kill the tank makes

your tank is nice and tidy now but slow down a bit their is no rush to fill the tank up

in the last 2 weeks you have added a aro 4 dats a lina shovel nose this will have a big impact on the filteration

First of all you cant get a Hystrix right now because they are not being shipped in. I know tons of people are selling so called Hystrix, but they are actually Humerosa rays who will get 30Inches across. Motoro's will also get closte to that big. Basically take a clean trash can lid & drop it in your tank that is how big your rays will get. Rays are not any more difficult, unless you get a Ceja ray or some small eyed ray, you need small rays like retic's or scobina's. you can also stick with males as they stay very small. Knowone wants a fish to outgrow its tank, but rays easily do & they will kill everything in the tank including them semlev if you dont keep up with water changes. I say that because rays eat a ton!

Good luck!

I havent rushed in and stocked the tank the lima was already in there I took out all of my cichlids in order to put the aro in. I plan on taking out all the decor to house the rays. Also I posted the tank size wrong its 72x30x24

In the large tank A male Motoro should be alright in there. Eventually it may need a bit bigger tank. I would go with Retic. rays as well though. They're awesome to keep and really not that difficult if they're fat and eating well when you get them.

a 72x30x24 MAY be ok for a motoro male but no way for a female

Thats the problem they are rare and I can not get any anywhere which is why I was asking if there was any other species that I could house in a 72x30x24???

scobina, retic and hystrix are your best options really, although maybe not as hardy as a motoro.

Ok well I spoke to Dan at tropical fish imports and he has a Potamotrygon Orbiginyi and a Potamotrygon Yepezi would either of these work?
