Nope, the port cichlids were restricted to Cichlasoma many years ago, which is what started having to rename all the other fish. Ports are the only fish allowed to be still listed under Cichlasoma, it's the correct genus.
You are right, they used to be considered acaras way back 20 plus years ago, only becuase of the number of hard rays in their anal fin. But Kullander determined they are really in the Cichlasomine subfamily, not the Acara subfamily.
