Some updated pics of these guys. I've been watching them pretty closely for the past week or so. A pair has finally developed and they have laid eggs once, but they only lasted about 3 days before they were eaten. While they were sitting on eggs, both parents seemed to be pretty attentive. Only one parent would leave the eggs at a time, always leaving some one to guard the eggs. This first batch was pretty small, less than 100 eggs for sure. The male is quite aggressive at times, and then sort of aloof at times as well. Not really sure what his deal is, but I've seen a couple of orange head tapajos get up close and personal to the eggs, and only the female defends the site which is pretty weird, but he keeps the other two metae pushed all the way over to the other side of tank. Since I moved the Krobia xinguensis and Angels over to my 46g, there have been a few more casualties... one Columbian tetra, and one cherry barb. I know it's the male metae. He's just a grumpy SOB. I guess it's a bit of an anomoly, but you never know what you are going to get when they put that breeding dress on... sigh...

And this is the female. Love the color on this girl and her dorsal and anal trailers are getting really long. Very cool looking.
Over all super under rated fish. Pics on the web simply do not do them justice. I love these guys and wish I could dedicate a full 125g just to them.
