if we currents coming from filters and powerhead, would we still need an air stone bubblerr to create oxygen for the fish? I was alwaysto much of a chicken to just cut the bubbles off.

You need something to agitate the surface of the water. If you aim a filter up or a power head then no, you don't need bubbles

also depends on the fish you keep, fish with a labyrith organ aren't so fussy about oxygen whereas fish that dwell in fast flowing rivers etc often require massive amounts of oxygen with devices such as a velturi
