can aeration be accomplished by just stirring the water as if your cooking stew? or does it have to be done a different way?

Anything that allows exchange of oxygen I would imagine. Stirring would probably be minimal.

Not to be rude but why are you asking the question? Are you trying to solve a problem or work around something? Its just an odd question. To answer yes it will help but not much. It will depend on how long and how aggressive you are in the stirring.

why not get an automatic stirrer?

i think they are called powerheads :D

bllib: what would be the best way of aerating my salt water? i asked because i am currently setting up a new tank and i have decided to make my own salt water. any information would be a great help. thanks in advanced

pretty much.. the circulation and suface aggitation would be enough. especially if you have an external filter, estecially especially if you have a sump or W/D filter

i have a berlin sump. so im assuming the power heads would just make this process faster?

yes im very new the the hobby. but i hope to keep it with me for the rest of my live. and thank you for all the information. :D
