no, just good filtration.

Correct....

no, as long the filtration system provides enough surface agitation

Correct....

oscar need aerator
the only kind that didn't need or reauierd aerator are the anabantoids as gouramies , betta ...

Incorrect.... see other replys above...

Its not agitation...its getting the water from the bottom of the tank to the top to expel and exchange gases in the water. Air bubbles actually "stretch" the surface of the water adding surface area. The bubbles also bring water up to the surface with it. SOMTIMES, water movement on the surface isnt enough to get that water moving throughout the tank. Experiment in an empty tank. People who say no to aeration dont understand the water movement and desolved oxygen relationship.

Proper surface agitation from a filter or power head results from water cascading into the tank from above or water flow aimed from below the waterline and up (straight up or at an angle). The second will do much the same thing as rising bubbles creating a water lift.

I believe what the OP was asking is if he needed to use a bubble wand or air stone to keep an oscar. Surely it can't hurt, but it is not necessary either.

I have never been a fan of air stones etc. and have never used them. Have some well stocked tanks too, and all fish are healthy and happy with just the aeration from the filter circulation. All tanks have at least one HOB and one cannister.

Right. You dont NEED an airstone.
