I'm doing a project for my Animal Behavior class, so I decided to examine why so many people are afraid of snakes. So I started this thread as kind of a precursor, so if anyone of you are indeed fearful of these legless reptiles, please vote and also reply with a more detailed answer if you wish. Even if you aren't afraid of snakes, maybe you were at some point, so feel free to vote anyway.

When i was really young i was afraid of many animals that bit the reasons for that was I was badly mauled by a neighbors dog as i got older i chose to fight my fears now I love my snakes ..

Hope this helps you some.

I used to be afraid of any reptile, but about 6 years ago when a boyfriend brought his snake to live with us, it changed me for the better. I now have a wonderful understanding of these gentle giants.
And I LOVE my Ball Python!!!

I took the liberty of adding the "not afraid option", I don't ever remember ever being afraid of snakes though my mom hated them.

fortunately i didnt get an irrational fear passed on to me even though my mum hates them and my dad isn't much of a fan either, but because it's not an everyday sight, i'd never be subjected to friends or family freaking out. It is interesting, because i know many people have completely irrational fears of them. They associate it with a dangerous animal, and mainly because of lack of knowledge of every species of snake. I have changed a lot of peoples perceptions of snakes (even to the point where people who would once cringe at the word "snake" to be a current keeper) especially using snakes such as young corns where they can see hey, this is harmless. I think the main problem is misunderstanding, although i know for others there are many reasons such as my aunties of "i don't trust them, i don't like the way they move" lol.

When I was a kid, and living out in the country, snakes were all around us, and my father would catch garter snakes them regulary and would put them in a tub for a day or two to let me and my brother watch them. I don't really remember me ever being afraid of snakes, but if anything this just let my love grow for them.

I should have said this sooner, but figured I wouldnt need to. Guess I was wrong....

I'm not here to discuss why people shouldn't be afraid of snakes; I'm not posting this to "recruit" anyone. I just want to know how many people feel a certain way. So if you never were afraid of snakes, please don't post anything. Not trying to be an arse, and nothing personal...it just doesn't help me any.

"Upon thy belly, thou shalt go. And thou shalt strike a man at his heel, and he shalt strike at thy head." But a snake in captivity, I can handle.
