Ok, today at the pet store I purchased a Red Top and a Fire Mouth that had grown up together in the same tank there whold lives and have never fought. There both darn near full grown. Whats everyones opinion on this? Is it 'ok' for this mix? I dont have pics of them. There in a bow front tank so its really really hard to get a picture.

Is it a red top zebra?

Sometimes mixing works and sometimes it doesn't. Fish growing up together doesn't really seem to matter. With mbuna all bets are off. Even them moving to a different tank can cause problems. You could try it for now but have a back up plan in case things don't work out.

Also have a plan for the different dietary needs.

Its very rare that the red top didnt kill the Meeki. Mbuna are usually insanely aggressive. I personally wouldnt mix the two, not for the fact that if the Meeki enters its cave it will probably die, but I dont like the idea of mixing fish from 2 different continents. Diff dietary need and water conditions.

Well I had the two together for an hour and it didnt work out. The african was beating on the south american. So i decided to bring back the african and go all s. american. I picked up a black convict this time. They seem to be doing ok so im relieved. Iv tried mixing before with a convict and mbunas, ya not such a good idea. Someone posted on my topic from long long ago about the mix i used to have. I probably should have learned from the first time lol
