Hi all
I've got a couple of african armoured shrimp, sometimes called fan shrimp because of the filter feeding fans on their "arms"(!).
They both have a leg missing.
Does anyone know if the legs regenerate when they moult?
And anyone know how often they moult ?
I've heard they grow to 4"-5".

Yes, the legs regenerate, little by little, with each molt. Molt intervals are not time dependent since diet, temp, and age of the animal are all factors. The younger the animal the more molts it'll go through as it grows. Provide some calcium and iodine in their systems to aid in molting and new carapace development.

Thanks Oddball, thats good news.
The little dudes don't seem too bothered about how many legs they've got, but I'VE been wondering if they would grow back!
I look into the calcium and iodine supplement thing...

Ive caught crayfish that were missing claws, and some that had really small claws, so they must regrow them as time goes on.

Thanks again everyone. Its rare for a question not to get an answer on MFK!
On a personal note, since I'm new here, why not check out
