how big do africans get?. im building a 450g and stocking it with arows and bichirs and a possible pbass. i dont want but maybe 2 arows if it can be done i was thinking a silver and a black. thanks for the info.

Africans will push the 3 foot mark, but more importantly this is a very specialized feeder.

They are filter feeders so you will have to supply foods like plankton, live worms, insects, fish, and shrimp. I've never really heard of Heterotis niloticus accepting prepared foods with great success.

Personally, I wouldn't keep an African with those other tankmates...I would say you would be better off with a silver or black considering those are possibilities for you.

Yea they are filter feeders, Sometimes they might accept bigger food but they will keep spitting it out untill it gets small enough for them to accept.

thank you the african was mentioned to me on another post. would my tank work with
2 seng bichir
2 ornate bichir
1 silver
1 black
1 pbass

I have a 22" African aro with bichirs that range in size from 6" to the 1 foot mark and have had no real problems. The only trouble is feeding time, the african just sucks up all the pellets before the bichirs get to it. So I need to throw in extra food at feeding time.
