African Arowana going wild

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Post was a little unclear, now is the Afro carrying on only when the tank is being emptied or during both phases of the w/c?

yeah, once after the water change, he is fine... its only when i drain the tank... and afterwards he just goes back to sand sifting... but once i start doing water changes. like right after i drain about 3 inches of water out of my 300 he goes nuts. and then gets my ID shark nuts... then a chain reaction happens (half the time)... but i know for a fact the african arowana is the culprit.

I was going to suggest that the new water might be irritating the Afro but that does not seem to be the case.I'm guessing that the draining startles it.

Do you shut off your filters when you start draining, if not maybe it's the splashing of the filter returns.

When I drain tanks, I have new water coming in at the same rate it drains. I just let them run that way for awhile after I am done vacuuming. Yes I waste a lot of water. We use free chlorine here, so it isn't much of an issue. Maybe try that?

I do the same thing as Rodger

Roger I can't do that as I have chlorine in my water. I do water changes with the lights on. It's highly annoying cause the chain reaction isn't exactly gentle on the tank or the fish. They all now have injuries. And this happens almost every time
